Deseret String Band 1972-2002

The Deseret String Band introduced many people, particularly in the West, to the beauties of old-time string band music. The group dug deep into Mormon field recordings, scratchy old cowboy 78 records, and their own walk-abouts looking for aged musicians and singers. In the end,  the styling they brought forth was a mix of their influences, particularly from the south and the burgeoning celtic music revival. Their friend, folklore graduate student and sometimes bandmate, Tom Carter, conceded, when they were touring through Bloomington, Indiana, that the band was "eclectic but believable."
